Meghan Crowley
Meghan Crowley, a freshman honor roll student at Morristown High School, is a big part of the future of our organization. A founding member of Kids 2 Kids, Meghan has been involved in teaching special needs children swimming for several years already. We’re not the only people who think Meghan’s heart is always in the right place, she’s also been recognized by the Rotary Club of their “Service Above Self” Award. The sole winner from her 8th grade class, Meghan received this very special citation because of her hours and hours of charity work for Kids 2 Kids and in her hometown of Morris Plains. Meghan says it best, “Through all of the work I’ve done or been involved with, I’ve met some inspiring people handling issues I will never know. It puts a lot in perspective.”
Like so many of our mentors, Meghan is always busy studying, volunteering or playing sports. At Morristown High School, she’s already made an impact on their soccer team, winning “Defender of the Year” for her tenacious, team first, defense. Meghan is also a star swimmer for both the MHS and her YMCA teams. Swimming as a freshman, she qualified for the New Jersey Meet of Champions, the highest level of high school swimming in New Jersey. Although she would never tell you, Meghan’s relay teams set two new records for Morristown High School this year. She also had a tremendous season swimming both team and individual events for her YMCA team, setting personal records in all of her events, breaking two YMCA records and also winning her way into the YMCA Nationals held in Greensboro, NC this March.
During her summers, Meghan works as a lifeguard at the Morris Plains town pool. For the past three years, she has also given back to the community as volunteer from the Notre Dame church, spending a week on a work crew for Operation Appalachia. The Crowley’s have a long tradition of giving back to the Morris Plains community, and Meghan and her family spend many Thanksgivings delivering food and serving meals at a local homeless shelter.
