Local Students Honored for Exceptional Community Service with Kids2Kids Special Needs Mentoring Program
Nineteen dedicated student mentors from the Kids2Kids Special Needs Mentoring Program were recently recognized with the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award on November 30th at Morristown Beard School, celebrating an impressive collective contribution of over 2,000 volunteer hours.
In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.
The PVSA has continued under each administration, honoring the volunteers who are using their time and talents to solve some of the toughest challenges facing our nation and allows certifying organizations to recognize their most exceptional volunteers. Each year Kids2Kids has more than a dozen of our volunteers earning Gold, Silver and Bronze awards that are highly regarded by colleges, employers and military alike. Our mentors tend to continue their service in other areas of their life and our special needs children learn invalueable skills to become more independent and confident.
The K2K program provides a unique and supportive environment for children with special needs, offering a diverse range of engaging activities including swimming, art, Taekwondo, golf, horticulture, yoga, theater, running, and more. Beyond these activities, the program’s core mission is to create a safe, inclusive space that supports motor skill development and fosters crucial social skills and meaningful friendships. Kids2Kids is truly humanity at it’s best.
These extraordinary young mentors have demonstrated remarkable compassion and commitment, dedicating their time and energy to supporting children with special needs. Their volunteer work not only provides invaluable assistance to the participants but also creates transformative experiences for both mentors and mentees.
The Kids2Kids Special Needs Mentoring Program continues to seek passionate volunteers who want to make a difference in children’s lives. Individuals interested in joining this inspiring initiative are encouraged to visit the program’s website at kidstokids.us to learn more about becoming a mentor.
These 19 student volunteers exemplify the power of community service, showing how young people can create meaningful connections and support those with special needs through dedication, empathy, and active engagement. Congratulations to all of our PVSA winners!
